Eye Exams

  • The American Optometric Association recommends adults to have eye exams every year. If you do not wear glasses or corrective lenses, an eye exam at least every other year is advised for preventative care. For ages 60 and older, the doctor advises exams annually as the risk for ocular health conditions increase. This may be more often if you are at risk due to factors including family history, systemic health conditions, or take medications with ocular side effects.

For children, the first eye exam is recommended at 6-12 months age. Then at least once from ages 3-5 years old. Once they enter school age, or at 6 years old, an eye exam is recommended annually.

  • Most of our patients can expect to spend 45-60 minutes from check in to check out for a comprehensive eye exam. This may vary based on individual needs. We never want you to feel rushed and we are here to answer any questions.

We also welcome our patients to spend additional time in our frame gallery to find the perfect look.

  • During a comprehensive eye exam, we will assess your vision and overall eye health. This includes a series of tests and evaluations, such as a visual acuity test, assessment of eye movements and alignment, refraction, and a review of the internal and external ocular health.

Bringing the right information will make your eye exam appointment run more smoothly and help you get the most out of your time in the exam room. Make sure you bring the following items/information:

    • current glasses or contacts

    • list of medications you take

    • insurance information (vision and medical)

    • questions, concerns, or information for your doctor such as:

      • family eye health history

      • observations of changes in your vision

      • recent health issues that could impact vision
